Ferndale Youth Assistance 38th Annual Youth Recognition Celebration!

March 5, 2020 – 6:30 to 8:00 pm
Ferndale Youth Assistance will be recognizing youth in two categories: Individual and Group grades k-12. One graduating senior who is nominated may be selected for a $1,000 scholarship from the David Michael Smith scholarship Fund to pursue higher education.

A Child’s Journey Through Grief

Mind Full, or Mindful? Learning Mindfulness Techniques for Parenting

Please join us in learning mindfulness techniques used to cope with the daily stressors of parenting. This parent education class will explore how to implement daily coping skills to improve stress management and concentration. You will be led through a series of guided meditations and short breathing exercises to encourage calmness, relaxation and rejuvenation. Attendees are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, pillow or blanket with them for added comfort.

How Do I Handle My Child’s Anger?

Please join us in learning realistic techniques used to improve anger management for children. Topics of discussion will include: sensory overload, tantrums vs. meltdowns, correlation of how kids mirror their parent’s expressions, and techniques used for releasing anger.
Judy Lipson is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 30 years of experience in all levels of public education, including teacher consultant and crisis counselor. Her specialties include working with individuals who experience anxiety, ADHD, and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). As an educational strategist, she believes every child deserves a chance.

Guest Speaker & Discussion: “Parenting the Love and Logic Way”

A free parenting workshop that combines education, parent support and group discussion on parenting with love and logic. Learn ways to establish effective control with children of any age.
Anne Alden is a private Parenting Coach, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Business Administration. Anne has coached over 500 parents and has facilitated all of the parenting classes at Common Ground for the past eight years. Combining her background in crisis counseling, psychology and parenting; Anne believes that everyone has the ability to be a good parent and welcomes the opportunity to help you become a more successful parent.
